About Me

My name is Sam Amis, and I have been living and working in Portland, Oregon for a while now. I am extremely passionate about the design of objects, our interactions with them, and what truly makes something indispensable for everyday use. For me, design is much more than just creating something aesthetically pleasing; it is about creating an emotional connection between the user and the product.

I still remember the exact moment I discovered Industrial Design through a book about IDEO that my dad had given me when I was in high school. We were fortunate enough to tour IDEO in San Francisco while on a family vacation, and I was blown away by the 'war room' with Nerf guns, Skittles, and sketches plastering the wall. That was the moment I knew I wanted to pursue a career in industrial design.

Since then, I have worked tirelessly to develop an approach to design that focuses on our attachment to products and why they mean so much to us. The more a product or service truly means to us, the longer we keep it around, pass it down, and leave a lasting impression on others; but most importantly, we leave a much smaller footprint. I have worked on a broad range of projects and experiences throughout my career, from partnering with Fortune 500 companies to helping start The James Brand. This has allowed me to hone my skills in the field of Industrial Design and beyond, with a focus on making physical products and experiences better.

Outside of design, I am hugely passionate about sport. I believe that sport is one of the greatest stories created week in and week out, over and over again. It can stop wars (see Didier Drogba), be dramatic and crushing all at once, and I love it. Whether it's watching a game or participating in one, I find it incredibly inspiring and rewarding.
